Why do we do it?

Because we love it of course!

But there's more to it than that, because whilst we peddle our wares and provide what we believe to be an excellent value, social activity for our local community, we also need to cover our costs. And in doing so, we funnel any surplus funds in the direction of our local good causes. So who / what are they? Read on...

FOLLOWING several years of running the Live At The Lake music concert events, a new organisation has sprung up to help music and musicians in the Newent area.

The Soundscope Community Music Association has been formed by Yanna Zissiadou, Head of Music at Newent Community School and Sixth Form Centre, alongside other organisations such as The Good News Centre, local businesses, musical groups, including Newent Orchestra, plus musicians, festival organisers and parents.

Currently, Soundscape are working with the Community School to provide a rehearsal room for use by members of the local music scene.

They are also seeking more musical mentors, having recruited Adam Burtenshaw and Bill Anderton, who is Leader of the 30 strong Newent Orchestra, and also plays regularly with Gloucester Symphony Orchestra.

Supporting all types of musical events, their next will be supplying musicians for the Pauntley Real Ale Festival on Saturday June 6.

More information on the Soundscape Community Music Association is available from David Sass at
